Award Celebration 2019/2020
The Bernese Award for Environmental Research was granted for the 12th time on 5 March 2020. At the ceremony, laureates Clau Dermont and Michael Scheurer were honoured by the University of Bern and the co-sponsors of the award, CSL Behring AG and Energie Wasser Bern.
Clau Dermont, winner of the Main Prize, introduced his PhD thesis on the role of citizens in the transition to renewable energy. Michael Scheurer, who won the Recognition Award, presented his Master’s dissertation on the problem of microplastics in Swiss floodplain soils.
At the event, Swiss National Councillor Aline Trede held a speech entitled “You, me, us – the climate concerns us all”. Speeches were also given by the sponsors, the Rector of the University of Bern, and the Commission President.
